Keep the lights on. If you’ve received a disconnect notice—or your service was shut off within the last 90 days—Sue’s Safe Haven may be able to help with electric, gas, or water.
Rental Assistance
Stay housed. If you’ve received an eviction notice or are behind on rent, Sue’s Safe Haven may be able to help with a portion of your rent.

Who We Help:
Sue’s Safe Haven may assist with past-due utilities that are at risk of shutoff or have been shut off within the last 90 days (as funds allow).
Please note:

You may apply for assistance with one utility.

The utility must be in your name and at your current address.

You must have received a disconnect notice.If disconnected, the shutoff must be less than 90 days.

You must have made a payment on the bill within the last 90 days.
Requirements for Assistance

Resident of Wyandotte County
-
Household income ≤ 150% of the Federal Poverty Level
-
The bill is in the applicant’s name and the applicant lives at that address
-
Demonstrates ability to stabilize within 30–60 days
-
Disconnect notice (for utility assistance)
Note: If you have received rent and/or utility assistance from Sue’s Safe Haven, Cross-Lines, or any other agency in the last 12 months, you may not be eligible at this time.
Required Documentation
Please be ready to provide:

Proof of Wyandotte County residency (bill, lease, ID)

Disconnect Notice (or eviction/delinquent notice if seeking rent help)

Lease (for rent assistance)

Identification for all household members (ID, birth cert., SS card, etc.)

Proof of economic hardship (recent pay stubs, benefit letters, layoff/reduced hours notice, medical bills/paperwork, workforce program docs)
Tip: Contact your utility company or landlord ASAP to request a payment plan and document your outreach. Early communication gives more options.

If lines are busy, leave a voicemail with your full name, call-back number, address, and utility type. We return calls within 1 business day. -
Applications are reviewed weekly.

Within 10 business days of receiving your complete information, staff will contact you for additional screening or notify you if ineligible.

No financial commitments are made during screening.

Our goal is to make commitments within 10 business days of receiving a complete application, subject to funding.

A submitted application is not a guarantee of assistance. Approval depends on eligibility and availability of funding.
